The Lord's New Church which is Nova Hierosolyma
On October 1 and 2, 1999, members of the New Church denomination known as
"The Lord's New Church which is Nova Hierosolyma" gathered in a Special
Assembly. A large gathering of African members in Durban, Natal-KwaZulu,
Republic of South Africa was linked by video conference with another
meeting in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, USA. Members in the
Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, France, the Ukraine and other
parts of the US also participated by teleconference.
After listening to speakers report on the state of the church in their
countries, resolutions were introduced, discussed and brought to a vote.
By adopting the resolutions, the members of the church withdrew their
consent to be governed by the former governing body in the church, and
gave their consent to an interim plan of government, under which the
church organization will be reconstituted.
This Assembly marked a turning point in the sad recent history of that
church organization. In recent years, the governing body of the church has
alienated and isolated itself from the vast majority of its members, has
made constitutional changes which perpetuate its own power and remove
checks and balances and financial accountability. Churches have been
closed in several countries, members have been expelled and priests
dismissed for disagreeing with the governing body.
Those of us who love the teachings and community of the Lord's New Church
which is Nova Hierosolyma now have cause to rejoice, because the Lord has
given us strength to stand up and restore peace and order to this body of
His church.
